A water meter is a scientific instrument for accurate measurement of quantity of water distributed to the consumers. It also fulfils the need to know accurately the water produced and distributed. It differs from flow meter in respect of the following points. 1.It is a quantity meter and not a flow rate meter. 2.Water meter is a mechanical device whereas flow meter may be a mechanical or an electronic device. 3.Water meter is always specified in two accuracies i.e. lower range and upper range. Whereas in flowmeters it is specified in a single range. 4.The upper range and lower range accuracies are respectively 2% and 5% of the actual quantity, for the water meter whereas it is variable for flow meter as per the customers requirement. 5.Importance is not given for repeatability and linearity in the case of water meter whereas importance is given in the case of flowmeter. Direct reading on eight counters. Single tangential jet. The motion of dipped component is transmitted to the part contained in the specific vacuum capsule by means of a special magnetic joint, protected from external fields which could hamper its efficiency.
