Cooling Roll have hard chrome plated surface. Cooled water passing through its Rotary joint to cools the hard chrome plated surface area of the Roll. Cooling Roll cools the contact area that touches the web materials or rubber rolls. There are different type Cooling Rolls like single shell, double shell jacketed type, spiral type. The surface cooling effect will be vary for different types. Cooling Roll having shaft with inside hole to fix rotary joint. Bigger shaft diameter is recommended to avoid breakage of end shafts as end shaft having inside hole.

Steel Rolls 'as-cast' without heat treatment are not
suitable for rolling. Dendritic structure, coarse grain, non-homogeneity
and internal stresses make it poor in mechanical properties. So these
rolls are subjected to precisely Comentite / Ferrite more evenly while
retaining the basic Pearlitic structure so important to Alloy Steel
Rolls.
Such rolls have higher strength at cost of hardness decrease compared to
Chill or S G iron Rolls, making them suitable for heavier passes and

Tube mill rolls - made out of ESR Grade (D-2) MV stainless steel only. In this particular type of grade the density and grain size of this material is, same from center to periphery, as compared to forged materials wherein the profile area of the roll is having very poor grain structure / columnar grain structure. Due to these particular characteristics rolls made out of ESR Grade steel do not show any failure / spillage.
