Solvent Extraction is a practice done to extract the oil from oil bearing materials with the use of Solvent. Solvent being used in this process can be normal Hexane – a petroleum by-product. The plant designed by us extracts the oil directly from various oil seeds which contain less than 20% oil. After detaching, it is fully pressed to make it a cake of seeds containing more than 20% oil and then the oil is extracted from it. The seeds of sunflower, peanuts, cotton seed, palm kernel, canola, copra, castor are used to extract the oil.
Troika’s verified design is simple, robust and flexible for process material and with inherent safety features. The extractor is horizontal in design a concept with universal approval; in fact most of the extraction plants working through out the world have adopted horizontal design of extractor. This operation involves preferential solubilizing of one or more soluble constituents (solutes) of a solid mixture by a liquid solvent. The unit described here is for a semi-batch operation.
The solid to be extracted is put inside a glass fibre bag and is placed in the extraction vessel. Solvent in the reactor is boiled and condensed, and passed to the extraction vessel, from where extract is mixed with the solvent and passes to the reboiler. The process is repeated until extraction is complete. Solution is again evaporated to obtain the extract When desired / steady concentration of solute is achieved in the solution the operation is discontinued. The solution is drained off and collected for further use.

Continuous solvent extraction is the most modern way of recovery of oil from oil bearing materials. Mechanical expulsion with expellers subjects the oil to the combined action of high temperature, high pressure and high moisture, the effect of which causes oxidation, colour fixation & hydrolysis.
Some of the materials like rice bran, soya bean seeds mostly can't be handled by expellers.
