The roots are bitter, sweet, pungent, anodyne, demulcent, lactagogue, refrigerant, stomachic, galactogogue, laxative, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory and tonic. The roots alleviate vata and kapha, have hot potency and heavy attribute. It is used against anthrax, bilious disorders, bites, blood disorders, cholera, colic, convulsions, diarrhea, dropsy, epilepsy, fever, gout, headache, intoxication, rheumatism, sore throat, burning sensations, and snakebite. The flowers are acrid, astringent, styptic, depurative, utreine sadative, constipating, antibacterial, corrective of urinary pigments, febrifuge and alexeteric. They are useful in the conditions of kapha and pitta, leprosy, burning sensation, skindiseases, diarrhoea, dysentery, fever, headache, hemorrhoids, herpes, internal hemorrhage, leukorrhea, liver disorders, menorrhagia, ulcers, wounds. Juice of leaves are used in bilious sickness. They are also valued as a stimulant in pregnancy. Dried flower powder is used in ulcers and wounds to reduce the discharge and promote granulation.
The juice of its fresh flowers applied on the forehead, reduces the headache.

Eclipta alba is mainly used in hair oils, It may be used to prevent habitual abortion and miscarriage and also in cases of post-delivery uterine pain. The juice of the plant with honey is given to infants with castor oil for expulsion of worms. For the relief in piles, fumigation with Eclipta alba is considered beneficial. The paste prepared by mincing fresh plants has got an anti-inflammatory effect and may be applied to insect bites, stings, swellings and other skin diseases. But in Ayurveda, it is mainly used in hair oil.
For healthy black and long hair the plant is commonly used in hair oils all over India.
