The blanket cylinder on an offset press carries the blanket and has two primary functions:
• To carry the blanket in contact with the inked image on the printing plate.
• To transfer (offset) the ink image to the substrate carried by the impression cylinder. It is similar to the plate cylinder in that it has a gap, gutters, bearers (sometimes), gear and the bearings. It does not have clamps, but has reels for holding the blanket tight
The position of the blanket cylinder must be adjustable for two reasons:
• To bring it in and out of contact with plate and impression cylinders.

The Plate Cylinders are provided with quick-clamping bars for easy clamping and stretching the printing plate as well as for its diagonal displacement, if necessary. The plate cylinders can be adjusted both radially and axially on the machine run with the help of fine adjustment knobs with pointer indication of the current condition and position. The new method of easy and quick arresting reduces the time necessary for accurate printing plate register principally. Standard plate cylinders are equipped with back width control bars providing for a fine side extension of the printing plate and elimination of printing problems arising from the paper expansion. All register systems can be supplied with a register punch including mounting pins.
