Pneumatic conveyers are used to convey/transfer the material from one place to another. The conveying medium here is air, and the quantity is determined by the product. It is however not recommended to convey powders with higher fat contents(for milk products) or having sticky properties which may cause blockage in the ducts. For pneumatic conveyers, air of any temperature may be used. If hot air is used there will be a drying effect as well, however the effect will be minimal due to short residence time. Pneumatic conveying systems can be used with one-stage spray dryers of conventional design. In many cases ambient air is used thus providing a dual advantage, namely both conveying and cooling of the powder. In order to get the full benefit of the cooling effect a locking between the chamber outlet and the duct is recommended to prevent warm moist air from entering the conveying system.
