Basic process of refining is same in both batch & continuous refinery. Only difference is instead of a measured batch, crude oil is processed continuously with constant stream of flow. Inbetween required utilities & chemicals are added continuously in measured quantity.
Basic stages of the process are as below
Nutralizing , Bleaching, Dewaxing & Deodorizing.
Crude oil from obtained from expellers, solvent extraction plant contains foreign impurities such as mucilage, gums and unfiltered proteinous matter from the seed. It also contains gums which making it unfit for edible purpose.
Batch refining consists of following sections.
1) Nutralizing
2) Bleaching
3) Dewaxing
4) Deodorizing

Continuous oil refining process
We recommend continuous oil refining process for 25 tons and above capacity Plants. Two processes have been developed for Continuous refining of edible oils i.e. chemical refining and physical refining.
Chemical Refining :
This is the traditional method where the free fatty acids of the crude oils are neutralised with caustic soda. The resultant sodium soaps are separated by means of Separators. The neutral oils are subsequently bleached and deodorised. This method can be used for reliably refining virtually all crude oils.
Physical Refining :
In this method the free fatty acids are removed by distillation in one stage during deodorisation. A fundamental criterion for using this method is that the crude oils should be degummed as effectively as possible. However, this is only possible to a limited extent with some crude oil qualities.
