Laminae split from mica blocks and thins, the thickness of ten sheets of which taken together does not exceed : 0.23mm (0.009 inch), is called mica splittings. They are processed manually by skilled hands from lower grade mica. They are commercially marketed in the following two forms: 1. Book-form Splittings : Mica splittings arranged and supplied in form of individual books, each comprising of consecutive splittings obtained from the same piece of mica blocks or thins, is called Book-form splittings. They shall be sound, clean and free of mineral spots. Not more than an average of 1 in 500 splittings shall be vegetable-stained. They are split to the specified thickness without thick edges. The edges shall be clean cut. They are dusted with mica powder to offset residual cohesive forces.
