Corrugated Tube Heat Exchangers are shell and tube heat exchangers which use corrugated tubes instead of plain tubes. Corrugated tubes take the best features of both the plain tube and the plate heat exchanger. The tubes are corrugated to induce turbulence in both flows (product & service) at lower velocities. This not only increases thermal efficiency but also eliminates product channeling. Thermal efficiency is so improved, that for typical thin film applications heat transfer area can be reduced to less than half of that required in a plain tubular heat exchanger.

Hot water flows through inner tube in one direction only and cold water flows over the inner tube in outer tube. Direction of cold fluid flow can be changed from parallel or counter to hot water so that unit can be operated as parallel or counter flow heat exchanger. Flow rates of hot and cold water are measured using Rotameters. The PHE consists of a package with linked up embossed plates with passage openings. Every second plate is staggered by 180°, creating a flow gap at any given time. All plates are provided with tied up or glued gaskets, which completely seal the various flow gaps from the outside and separate the media involved in heat exchange.
The plate package is mounted in a rack and is pressed between fixed plate and pressure plate by means of clamping bolts.Warm and cold  media are normally led through the PHE in one-pass or multi-pass counter flows in order to guarantee a maximum heat transfer.
Connections of media involved in heat exchange are on the fixed plate, in case of multi-pass flow also on the pressure plate (see basic scheme below). Features :

Finned tube heat exchangers consist of a shell & finned tubes assembly. When an extended surface is needed on only one fluid side (such as in a gas to liquid exchanger) or when the operating pressure needs to be contained on one fluid side, a finned tube heat exchanger may be selected.

Fins are used to increase the effective surface area of heat exchanger tubing. Finned tubes are used when the heat transfer coefficient on the outside of the tubes is appreciably lower than that on the inside; as in heat transfer from a liquid to a gas, vapor to a gas, such as steam to air heat exchanger, thermic fluid to air heat exchanger.
