Acetylene has become increasingly prominent as a raw material for a whole series of organic compounds, among them Acetaldehyde, Acetic gas, and Acetic Anhydride. The remaining 20% of the acetylene production is principally used for oxy-acetylene cutting, heat treating and welding.
The acetylene plant is fully automatic and all the operations are performed automatically by pneumatically controlled valves along with highly accurate sensors and temperature controller imported from USA.
Acetylene is generated as a result of the chemical reaction between the calcium carbide and water. The by-product calcium hydroxide is discharged automatically from the generator. This is a circular published in the interest of all our customers worldwide tocaution them that for production of medical/hospital oxygen from the oxygen plant, it is very necessary that the main equipment i.e. the air separation plant,where the actual separation/distillation of oxygen and nitrogen takes place fromair consisting of many trays should be made of cryogenic grade stainless steel column with temperature as low as -190 degree C below zero. This is extreme cold temperature which is known as cryogenic temperature and ordinary materials like copper, brass and ordinary steel the properties changed and there is a reaction between copper and oxygen and other impurities. These impurities are collect along with oxygen and carried to the cylinder. Therefore the following caution has been issued.

EXO GAS GENERATORS
EXO-GAS (LEAN RATIO):
These atmospheres ranging from 90 % to 98 5 of perfect combustion have the following composition :
CO2 : 11 to 13 %
CO : 0.5 to 1.5 %
H2 : 0.5 to 2 %
N2 : Balance
These are normally used for bright annealing of copper , scale-free annealing of brass and similar operation on non-ferrous metals.
EXO-GAS (RICH RATIO):
The protective gas rich in CO and H2 is known as rich exo gas and is generated within 55 % to 90 % of perfect combustion , the gas composition will be:
CO2 : 5 to 6 %
CO : 10 to 12 %
H2 : 11 to 13 %
N2 : Balance
The composition of atmosphere gas depends on composition of fuel also.
