Using caustic magnesia as raw material, Sorel cement is also known as Magnesium Oxychloride Cement and is formed when pulverized Caustic Magnesia is treated with a strong solution of Magnesium Chloride. Being Very favorable material for decorative moulding this cement expands very slightly after settling due to the use of caustic magnesia in it. This cement is widely used as a flooring material in railways, hospitals, hotels, ships and docks, as wood preserver particularly in railway sleepers and mine timbers and in the manufacturing of grinding stones and abrasive wheels.
