In Carburizing furnace a process used harden steel with a carbon content between oil and 0.3 wt % c . In this process steel is introduced to a carbon rich environment and elevated temperature for a certain amount of time. Parts are heated at 927 deg c. Acetone, methanol and hydrogen are used for this process. Pack Carburizing and liquid Carburizing are also done using this furnace.

Surface hardening takes place in the plasma of a current-intensive glow discharge. This is the process of improving wear resistance and fatigue properties of a part by diffusing carbon or carbon and nitrogen into the surface of the part and thus creating a Carbon concentration gradient between the surface and interior of the metal.
